Poiana Brasovis the most famous resort for winter sports in Romania and also an important international tourist center. It has 9 ski areas with different degrees of difficulty, sports fields, a lake, discos, bars and restaurants. Accommodation is mostly provided in luxury hotels, guesthouses, villas or cottages.
The pure air existing here, strongly ozonated, free of dust and particles that cause allergies, the relatively low atmospheric pressure, and intense ionization, are the natural factors that recommend the resort for the treatment of asthenic neurosis, for states of exhaustion and physical and intellectual overwork, for secondary anemia and endocrine diseases, for diseases of the respiratory system.
Brief history: Established in 1895, Poiana Brasov served as a tourist spot for Brasov. The first cottage was built in 1904. In 1906 Poiana Brasov was recognized as a winter resort and three years later the first winter competitions took place. In 1951, the international student winter games took place. Nowadays Poiana Brasov is more like a small town with luxurious hotels and good restaurants.
The resort is located at the foot of Postavar at an altitude of 1030 m, and the highest mountain peak at an altitude of 1799 m (cf. Cristianul Mare), which means an altitude difference of almost 800 m.
The average temperature is 20 degrees C in summer and -3 degrees C in winter. There is snow from mid-December until the end of March; the thickness of the snow layer is on average 50-60 cm. The first snowflakes fall towards the end of September and the last towards the end of April. The snow cover can be guaranteed starting from the middle of December and until the end of March. The snow layer is approximately ~50 cm thick in Poiana and approx. ~100 cm on the mountain.
Poiana Brasov has the densest and most modern mountain tourist facilities in our country. Here we find two-, three- and four-star hotels, equipped with a swimming pool, performance and conference rooms, an equestrian center, sports facilities or a tourist stable. It has 9 ski areas and is equipped with two cable car lines and one cable car that ensures the access of tourists to the peaks of Postavar, to which are added, seasonally, several cable ski lines.
Near Predeal, Poiana Brasov is also the ideal place for spending the summer months. Mountain climate (with air rich in ozone); the artificial lake (which offers numerous leisure possibilities); marked trails (which lead hikers to various cabins, offering amazing landscapes); the comfortable accommodation units etc. fully justify the international reputation of this resort.
The resort is recommended for active rest (sport and leisure), having therapeutic effects on the central nervous system with positive influences on all vital functions.
Leisure includes in an elastic palette all the activities that aim to remove the tourist from under the influence of fatigue and stress, offering him the most varied means of sport, fun, entertainment and amusement, with a view to his physical and spiritual development, restoring and the necessary strength to continue daily activities.

A special attraction in Poiana Brasov is the Equestrian Center. It is located in the north of the resort, on the left of the road to Brasov, near Cabana Junilor. The center has a stable with a capacity of 26 horses, with all the necessary annexes, a stable (70×50 m) and a multifunctional sports field.
Tourists can turn to the advice of qualified instructors who will initiate them in the art of riding. Here you can also rent the necessary equipment for practicing this sport, and for beginners, riding courses are organized with a duration of 6 days.
Also, leisure rides on horseback, horse-drawn carriage rides, horse-drawn carriages, carriages and sleigh rides are organized. Riding demonstrations are presented at the center upon request.
