Botoșani is the seat and largest city of Botoșani County, Moldova, Romania. It is located in the southwestern part of Botoșani county, on the interfluve between the Sitna and Dresleuca rivers, to the west between Dresleuca and Siret, then descends between the Crivăț, Agafton, Baisa hills, in the depths resting on the Moldavian platform.
The territory of the city itself has an area of 4132 ha, and a slightly elongated character in the north-south direction. The average altitude of the city is 163 meters, only exceptionally exceeding 200 meters, in the western part. Characteristic of this region is the relief of low hills or hilly plains, developed on monoclinal deposits (slightly inclined to the southeast), with gentle slopes, with very wide valleys, with interfluves like plateaus and with low relief energy, on average 30- 40 meters.
The climate is temperate-continental, strongly influenced by air masses from the east of the continent, which causes the average annual temperature to be lower than in the rest of the country (8-9 C), with variable precipitation, with snow-poor winters, with summers that have a low humidity regime, with prevailing winds from the northwest and southwest.
Botoșani is located at the intersection of national roads 29B (Târgu Frumos-Dorohoi) and 29 (Suceava-Săveni), implicitly on the route of the European road E58, which connects the north-west border of the country, Halmeu, with the east, north-east, Sculeni. Thus, the city was from ancient times a bridge between Romania and the area of Bucovina and northern Bessarabia, and also with Ukraine, Poland and Russia. The A4 highway, which will connect Iași and Târgu Mureș, will be located 70 km away. The connection from Botoșani to the route of the Iasi-Târgu Frumos-Târgu Neamț section will be made on E58.
In the municipality there are several bus stations from which daily services are provided to other cities in the country (eg: Brașov, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Iași, Timișoara, etc.) and to most towns in the county. The main problems of intra-county road transport are the existence of car pirates and the poor condition of the road network.
The nearest airport is Suceava Salcea Airport, located 33 kilometers away. It has regular flights with Otopeni International Airport – Bucharest and with Vienna. Also nearby are Iasi International Airport – which has regular flights to Vienna, Budapest, Bucharest and Timișoara, and Bacău Airport – which has regular flights to cities in Italy and Spain, especially Rome.
